Daniel and I were sitting around a few days ago, and decided that we were quite bored. And had already eaten, even.
“What else is there to do?”, we pondered…
“Why, we could shoot one of them there portraits!”, I exclaimed.
Why hadn’t we thought of that before? It seems like it’d be a great way to cure the common case of boredom, so we figured that we’d give it a try. Now… What to shoot? Well, Daniel’s girlfriend, Ashley, had been in a few of our images before, and is featured throughout our portrait site currently. She was about to be off of work, so we had little time to come up with an idea, and also, shoot before nightfall set in.
The weather was great, especially for January, but it was still really overcast. We decided that we’d play off of that feeling, and try to create a cold, desolate image. Behind a cemetery here in town, there’s an old, abandoned house, which would soon provide the perfect backdrop.
Fast forward an hour, and we’re on location, setting up all of our gear! We even got to bust out our newest addition to our family, our Paul C. Buff Einstein 640. I could seriously do a whole blog post on just that flash, but I digress. Instead of shooting a great looking behind the scenes video with our 7D, we decided that time was of the importance, and we were to be losing light fast. What? My ever so amazing Galaxy Nexus shoots almost acceptable video? Bingo, we’ll shoot with that.
I give you, “Scary house person thing shot at almost night time two nights ago”, the behind the scenes video!:
For those of you who like to see the technical side written out, here’s just that… To sum up our video, we used 5 flashes! A Paul C Buff Einstein 640 w/ octobox up front, model left, for the key light. For the rim light, we have a B-1600, gridded, which is also backlighting the fog. Also gridded, are two B-800′s, which are pointing at the front of the house, from camera left. To the right of the house, we have a Nikon SB-800, which is hitting the house, and also, the fog.
Thanks, as always, for reading!
